 Area51.jpg original file (252 kb) (pp:0) This is that silly base everyone's obsessed about near groom lake, The infamous "Area 51" Wich is actually abandoned now due to a leak in the fuel core at the sites small thermal reactor, causing the shut down of the base in late 1990. Nothing there now but storage guys, sorry to all you sci-fi geeks. (information obtained by family who worked at the base attempting to repair the leak, but LP testing showed that the metal itself was impure and should not have been used for the project to begin with, perhaps the base will be used again some day, currently used for shipping and recieving for near by bases as it has the longest runways equipped for it, the fuel has since been removed from the reactor, but the danger still remains, you can't be there for more than a few days without beng over exposed to radiation. maybe they'll build mini-estates out there or something some day LOL but for now its unuseable land unless for temporary use or storage of old data cards and tapes.) A shame, that long central run way was one of the first to test the Condor, and other super sonic aircraft, Its historical value is right up there with The Ken. Space Ctr. And the test sites in Los Almos New Mexico. |
